Charles Demuth (Artist)

Charles Demuth caricature by Ian Davy BrownI like to find artists, draw a caricature of them and then make a painting of it using their own technique/style (see www.ianart.co.uk). Whilst researching for this I came across Charles Demuth (1883-1935) an American Watercolourist, who then using oils later in life. Fortunately there was a photo of him for me to do this caricature.

Old Boat at Heybridge Painting

Using the sketch in the previous post, I then created a watercolour painting (on location). Felt I lost some of the spontaneity here that the sketch has.

UPDATE: in November 2013 I did a new version of this painting, which can also be seen on this blog:-

Boat Yard Heybridge

Been busy last few weeks working on my boat; between other jobs. This has been in Heybridge (near Maldon) and the great thing is the vast choice of things to sketching there (once I had done my days work on the boat of-course!).

Here is one such drawing of the boat yard, near the cafe.

Danny Boyle caricature

Danny Boyle caricature by Ian Davy Brown
Todays caricature is of Danny Boyle - Artistic Director for the London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony. My favourite part was at the start, when the green pastures were overtaken by industry and how the Olympic rings were forged. Very clever sequence - Must have been amazing for those watching in the stadium. (A4 Pad) Pencil

PS Using this sketch I have since created a refined (colour) version, which can been seen on my main web site www.IanArt.co.uk

AVB Cartoon

After doing yesterdays caricature of AVB, I thought today of an interesting way in which it could be used in a cartoon. With his drawing being a side view, it occurred to me that it would fit in with the Spurs badge.
